desmond tutu, jacob zuma, and the anc

yesterday, bishop emeritus desmond tutu lambasted jacob zuma and the ANC:

“Hey, Mr Zuma, you and your government don’t represent me. You represent your own interests,” Tutu said. “Our government is worse than the apartheid government because at least we expected it from the apartheid government.”

for those of you who don’t know jacob zuma is the president and the African National Congress is the ruling party of south africa and also the party of nelson mandela (or madiba as he is called which is his xhosa clan name). well the old bishop was pissed because they denied an entry visa to his friend the dalai lama for his 80th birthday party. i have to say it’s good to see a strong black south african leader publicly criticizing zuma and the ANC, even if it’s just in a fit about his birthday party and even if calling it worse than the apartheid regime is a bit strong and counterproductive. i wonder what madiba would say about the ANC if he wasn’t so old? the ANC, which did so much for this country under the leadership of mandela, is a corrupt, bumbling, shell of its former self.
