One thing that’s fun about the end of my ‘finding myself’ period is wearing work clothes again. I loooove work clothes. The best thing you can do for your work wardrobe is get well-tailored pieces. Then you have a bunch of equally lovely things that you don’t have to think too hard about what to pair them with in the morning. Putting down a little extra cash to get something tailored makes you look and feel like a grown-ass-woman. More importantly, it doesn’t have to be expensive. Buying something for $50 at TJ Maxx and then getting it tailored to fit your body just so can make it look like you spent $600 bucks at Saks. So take yo’ lazy butt to the tailor’s.
My favorite workwear outfit is my knee-length charcoal grey dress by Theory. It hangs so well on my body and I feel so confident in it. Another thing that makes this particular shorty feel confident is pointy nude flats. I would love to give myself some extra height by wearing my pointy black leather pumps all day (and in fact it’s not so hard in Jozi since you drive everywhere) but when faced with commuting on the train or a day full of meetings in different locations, flats are a must. My pointed nude kid leather flats + a pencil skirt or dress trick the eye into making my short legs seem not soooo short. In fact, I love them so much I feel like I’m wearing heels without the pain. This outfit makes me feel what I call “Power Sexy.”
Apologies for the bad pics- we got home from work and the sun was setting and I harassed P into taking my picture before we had to quickly change and leave to see a play and didn’t have time for the tripod.
Shoes: I honestly can’t remember but I think I got them on sale from a fairly terrible German department store called Peek & Cloppenberg
Bag: Franklin Covey (I didn’t know they made bags either)
