Homemade bread makes a delicious injection of carbs to your dinner of ginger carrot soup to power your long run the next day. Or it makes a downright Martha Stewart host/hostess gift to go with that bottle of wine. And it doesn’t have to be a giant mess or a production with a breadmaker.
Easy homemade no-knead bread from my favorite jovial food genius Mark Bittman:
3 cups all purpose flour, extra
¼ teaspoon salt
1 5/8 cups water
cornmeal for dusting
optional fixings: cherry tomatoes, garlic cloves, olives, get crazy!
Right before putting in the bread I like to poke in garlic cloves or halved cherry tomato at the top side, and generous sprinkling of sea salt with a brush of olive oil. At the end, I like to brush the top with olive oil to get the golden brown color and make your tomatoes sizzle. Wrap in brown craft paper with washi tape and present to your dinner party hosts or dip into your soup and enjoy.
